How Can We Help?
Signs That My Child Might Benefit from Outpatient Therapy
While weekly teen therapy and family therapy counseling sessions with a local therapist can be extremely beneficial, some individuals need more support in order to regain lost ground in terms of mental health, executive functioning, and academics. An expanded treatment team and higher level of care offers the multifaceted approach that many teens and families need in order to turn things around and start thriving rather than just coping.
If parents can answer yes to any of the questions below, a teen outpatient program may be the right fit for their child:
Is your teen expressing anxiety related to school, including both academics and peer relationships?
Has your teen had a hard time academically over the last year or more?
Has your child been withdrawn and not interested in friends or activities they once enjoyed?
Does your teen express hopelessness or sadness regularly?
Does your teen seem unmotivated and unfocused?
Is your child suffering from apathy and boredom?
Do you see signs that your teen might be abusing drugs or self-harming?
Is your child in weekly therapy, but it doesn’t seem to be making a difference?
If parents are observing any of these red flags, teen outpatient treatment can address what’s going on before it gets worse. It’s important to address these issues promptly, because they don’t tend to go away on their own and can indicate that a teen is vulnerable to a mental health crisis such as a suicide attempt.
At ClearPath, our child and adolescents therapy services focus on:
Robust Clinical Model
We treat the underlying trauma and attachment wounds that manifest as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and co-occurring issues such as problem substance use, self-harm, and disordered eating. Our programming is specialized for crucial moments of development in a young person’s life, as they navigate the multiple stressors and changes associated with adolescence. Each client receives an in-depth assessment that informs a tailored treatment plan, combining a variety of clinical and experiential modalities, as well as an academic curriculum and life skills training.
Healing the Whole Family
We recognize that family involvement is key to achieving sustainable healing, and our clinical model shifts the focus from the patient as the “problem” to the family as the solution. Strengthening authentic connections with self and others—including healing disruptions in the parent-child bond—is at the heart of our treatment approach. Teens in our outpatient programs build self-compassion, resilience, healthy coping skills, and more trusting relationships with parents and peers.
Therapy for Children & Adolescents
Children can experience a range of psychological and behavioral problems including anxiety, depression, OCD, defiance, school refusal, autism, aggression, social and performance anxiety, eating disorders, academic problems, and trauma.
If your child needs help for a psychological or behavioral problem or if you find yourself struggling to deal with these issues, our therapists can help.
What are Child Behavior Problems?
Many disorders are diagnosed during childhood. In addition to the distress and impaired functioning experienced by adults, children are at particular risk of developing comorbid disorders during critical periods of development. Many aspects of behavior, including effective social skills, organizational skills, self-schema, and body image are largely established at early ages of development.
Therefore, it is of great importance that accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment occur as soon as possible. In addition, it is always important to ensure that parents and other family members are involved as they often experience anxiety and other aversive experiences out of their concern for the behaviorally challenged child.
Common Symptoms in Childhood Disorders:
Aggression & anger (Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ODD; Conduct Disorder)
Attention problems (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD)
Academic difficulties (Learning Disorders/Disabilities, ADHD)
Social isolation
School refusal
Anxiety
OCD
Autism
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
